Matthew 9:27 - 31

27 When Jesus departed from there, two blind men followed Him, crying out and saying, “Son of David, have mercy on us!”

28 And when He had come into the house, the blind men came to Him. And Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?”

They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.”

29 Then He touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith let it be to you.”

30 And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, saying, “See that no one knows it.”

31 But when they had departed, they spread the news about Him in all that country.

Two blind men knew of the reputation Jesus was gaining as a healer. But they knew more about Him because they called Him “Son of David” meaning they knew the Messiah was to come through the lineage of King David. So they professed him to be not only with miraculous power, but he was also the fulfiller of the law and the prophets.

Jesus obviously did not respond to the pleas of these men while they were following Him, but after he had entered His house they came to Him, then Jesus asked them one question. “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” Jesus when He performed healing, nearly always credited the one asking with “faith”, here he is questioning them regarding their faith.

The two men acknowledged their faith in Him and the power he had.

“According to your faith is said on the same principle as was said to the centurion in the last chapter. If they had doubt on Christ's ability they would have remained blind.

They immediately received their sight. He then told them not to tell anyone.

This was not a miracle which could have been kept a secret among their community where everyone knew the ones who begged alms because of their conditions. They would have been very ungrateful not to tell what had happened to them. But Jesus did not want to have the world thinking the healing was for fame and popularity. If anyone accused Him of seeking fame and popularity, there were plenty of witnesses who heard his command to the two formerly blind men.
