Matthew 21:1 – 7

Jesus fulfills another prophesy written 500 years before it happened.

1 Now when they drew near Jerusalem, and came to Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples,

2 saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Loose them and bring them to Me.

3 And if anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.”

4 All this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying:

5 “Tell the daughter of Zion, ‘Behold, your King is coming to you, Lowly, and sitting on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey.’

6 So the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them.

7 They brought the donkey and the colt, laid their clothes on them, and set Him on them.

Jesus usually traveled on foot but this instance was going to change and he sent to disciples to get the needed transportation.

Jesus knew all thing which were related to his activities so he could instruct the disciples what to expect when they followed his instructions.

Jesus was living on earth which was his (1 Corinthians 10:26[for “the earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness.” ]) He has the authority to use the items on His earth. He did not just use them because He had the authority to commandeer them, He used them because they were needed, He needed the colt and its mother.

This action of Jesus riding on the donkey and its colt was prophesied in Zechariah 9:9, written some 5 centuries before Jesus lived on earth. Remember, there are many accurate prophesies in the Bible which prove the divine origin of the Bible, it is not a book written by men. It is written by men but men who have been given the instructions on what to write by God through the work of the Holy Spirit. (2 Timothy 3:16[All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, ]) Five centuries before Jesus rode the donkey and its colt, Zechariah wrote that the Messiah, Christ would do that very action. If people actually read and researched the Bible, the prophesies and their fulfillment would convince them of the origin of the Bible and its works.

Zechariah's words describe Jesus' entry into Jerusalem before He was taken and crucified.

Verses six and seven describe the event as it happened.
