Jude 5 - 11

5 But I want to remind you, though you once knew this, that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. 6 And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day; 7 as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

8 Likewise also these dreamers defile the flesh, reject authority, and speak evil of dignitaries. 9 Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, “The Lord rebuke you!” 10 But these speak evil of whatever they do not know; and whatever they know naturally, like brute beasts, in these things they corrupt themselves. 11 Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, have run greedily in the error of Balaam for profit, and perished in the rebellion of Korah.

The writers of the Bible did not always write new information to the believers or to convert those who were not followers, but many times they write to remind us what is true.

As an example Jude cites the exodus, when God rescued His people from the chains of slavery in Egypt and made them free. Just because we are in a saved condition we have to remember we can fall from being saved to being condemned as slaves to sin.

Jude also used the example of the angels who were in a great position as servants of the Most High and Powerful God. They listened to Satan and rebelled against God. They are now waiting the final judgment when they will be cast into the “Lake of Fire.”

Those of Sodom and Gomorrah will also be cast into the eternal fire because they violated the law of God.

“Suffering the vengeance” means the vengeance which will be given out on the “Day of Judgment.” Which is explained to us in 2 Thessalonians 1:9 (These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,)

The worldly destruction of those cities in the book of Genesis was meant to be an example for us, when their earthly destruction happened they were given their sentence to be enforced on the day of judgment.

“Strange flesh” is referring to their immoral behavior and is described in Romans 1:27. ( Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.)”Strange flesh” is simply homosexual behavior. Because of this homosexual behavior they will be suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

“Dreamers defile the flesh” are those who dream of depraved lusts which defile the earthly body.

“Speaking evil of dignitaries” Dignitaries means anything or being which is glorious, but Peter in his usage, (2 Peter 2:10) refers to angels in particular they are glorious and righteous.

As and example and contrast to the evil, Peter also used this (2 Peter 2:11) Moses body was hidden (Deuteronomy 34:6) Michael the Archangel contended with Satan for the body of Moses, showed he did not even speak evil of Satan as compared to the ones who speak evil of angels

Jude says these individuals are no better than beasts, they speak evil of things they do not understand, and the things they know naturally like the instinct of an animal. Like some animals they self destruct, very similar to the wording of Peter in (2 Peter 2:12), these men are no smarter than the dumb animal.

These individuals are like the selfish wickedness of Cain and like the greed of Baalam because he sold his soul for a bribe.

These individuals are also like Korah (Numbers 16) who rebelled against the authority of Moses which was given to him by God.
