The Parable of the Hidden Treasure

44 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

This parable teaches the value of salvation. Salvation is the message of the Gospel(good news) Salvation is the good seed planted in the field of the parable of the tares.

When a person finds salvation through hearing the Gospel then a person realizes how important it is and then devotes all of his time and talents to obtain it.

Matthew 13:45 – 46

The Parable of the Pearl of Great Price

45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls,

46 who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.

The same message is taught in this lesson as the one about the treasure in the field. The value of salvation.

The message about the pearl is this, it is not only one of great price but it is genuine. The King James Version of Matthew 13:45 uses the word goodly instead of beautiful, one word in the definition of “goodly” is genuine. There are many things which appear as pearls but are only imitations. The merchant was seeking genuine pearls.

Salvation is more desirable than a genuine pearl, a person should seek it more than valuable gems.

(Matthew 6:33,[ But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.])

A person has to be as careful as the merchant seeking the genuine pearl because there are many religious systems which appear to be genuine but are really like the imitations, examining the scriptures will found to be false. There is no reason for anyone to be deceived because the Scriptures make it very clear what true salvation is. When one finds it one must devote one's entire attention to obtain this genuine pearl of great price.

Salvation is what our eternal destination depends on, without salvation we spend a time without end suffering pain and anguish. If we are devoted to seeking the kingdom of God and His righteousness we find salvation and we have an eternal life with Christ in heaven.
