Matthew 12:33 - 37

33 “Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit.

34 Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

35 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.

36 But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.

37 For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Jesus points out to us there are two classifications of fruit trees, either good or bad. The good ones produce good fruit for eating and the bad ones do not produce fruit or produce fruit which are not suitable to eat. It is the reputation of the tree either good or bad.

Getting back to the subject of Jesus being able to cast out the demon, which was a good work, it could not have been done by someone bad. The bad was allied with the wicked Satan and could not do good work only evil deeds.

The offspring of vipers has a definition of cunning, malignant, and wicked men. This principle of a bad or corrupt tree being unable to produce good fruit, the wicked Pharisees are also classified as being unable to bring forth good fruit in the form of righteous words or deeds. It is by this reasoning that Jesus accuses them of having an evil heart because the words of their mouth were spoken evilly about the Holy Spirit.

The 35th verse is along the same line of thought. The good treasure in the good person's heart produces good results while the evil residing in the heart of the wicked person produces only evil.

We are held accountable for everything we do or say, idle words are words which are worthless or meaningless. Words like these cannot carry any good impression to the hearer, and is possible to even carry meanings which are never intended. This type of speaking by Christians need to be avoided and is wrong and will have to be accounted for at the day of judgment.

On the judgment day we will either be justified or condemned by our actions and the things we say, we need to be careful that meaningless or worthless talk does not condemn us to Hell.
