16 When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick,
17 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying:
“He Himself took our infirmities And bore our sicknesses.”
According to reference material, the time period being spoke of is between 3pm and 6pm. This day has been a busy one for Jesus. Now He is healing sick and casting out demons. No great rites cast them out, just ordering them to go and they are gone. The healing may have been by word or touch, He has used both ways to heal.
The scripture saying “that it might be fulfilled” does not always mean every healing was done just to fulfill prophecy. It is good for us to consider these actions in this manner. That in doing the healing and casting out of demons, He fulfilled prophecy, the prophecy cited here is (Isaiah 53:4)
We can see that Jesus heals because he has compassion for those suffering. (Matthew 14:14 [And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick. ])
