Revelation 10:8 - 10

8 Then the voice which I heard from heaven spoke to me again and said, “Go, take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel who stands on the sea and on the earth.”

9 So I went to the angel and said to him, “Give me the little book.”

And he said to me, “Take and eat it; and it will make your stomach bitter, but it will be as sweet as honey in your mouth.”

10 Then I took the little book out of the angel’s hand and ate it, and it was as sweet as honey in my mouth. But when I had eaten it, my stomach became bitter. 11 And he said to me, “You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, tongues, and kings.”

God tells John to take the little book which is the same one as in the first part of the chapter revealing the “Reformation” which restores the Bible into the hands of the ordinary people. God telling him through an angel to take it shows that it was intended for John to be the one who would reveal these prophesies unto the world.

He is told to eat the book, showing that he was to be inspired to report the contents of the prophesies to the people of the earth.

It would be sweet in taste to John because he was a follower of God and believed in God's word. So he had an attitude of belief and agreement with the words given for him to share with the world.

It would have an adverse effect on John after digesting the little book because the people of the world would not like what was written the book, as its message dealt harshly with many people of the world.

The angel tells him he is to prophesy again about and to many people of the world. This includes us as readers of his writings. This shows it is not meant to say the end of the world would happen at the time John was hearing this prophesy.
